Research Study: Interactive Videos
Project Description
For the Instructional Technology M.Ed. program at East Stroudsburg University I was required to conduct a research study on a piece of educational technology. The educational technology I chose to conduct a research study on was interactive videos. The title of my study was Interactive Educational Math Videos with Embedded Questions versus Traditional Linear Educational Math Videos. Prior to conducting the study, I learned how to effectively research and analyze studies that have already been done on interactive videos, put together a research binder, submited a research proposal for my researh study, competed the National Institute of Health (NIH): Protecting Human Participants test and received an NIH certificate, and submitted an Internal Review Board (IRB) application for my research study. Once my study was approved I was able to conduct my

research and gather data. When I was done gathering data I analyed the results and organized a report on my research study into a poster board, which I presented to my research class and the Annual Research Symposium at East Stroudsburg University. All of this work was conducted over two semesters.
Demonstrates Mastery
The research study and the work I completed prior to the study demonstrates mastery of outcome six since through each aspect of the research study process I continuously considered how my research would affect and impact others especially the study participants as well as the implications the study could potentially have on them. Completing the NIH: Protecting Human Participants test and receiving an NIH certificate also demonstrates my mastery of outcome six since the test helped me build a strong understanding of ethical and moral research practices for conducting research with human participants.
Benefits
Even though this research study cannot be generalized, it is beneficial to my understanding of interactive videos in education and how they effect learning. This research study can also be beneficial in showing how there is a need for more research on interactive videos in education and how they effect student learning.
