Outcome 5

Synthesize best practice research and apply these findings to the development of effective communication techniques to foster active inquiry, collaboration, and guided interaction in a positive Instructional Technology learning environment.

Real World Lesson and Ideal Learning Environment

Project Description

The real world lesson I created is a professional development lesson on Desire2Learn for college professors. Each week the professors will watch a video tutorial and learn how to apply the video tutorial to an online learning module they are creating in D2L. Each week I will meet with the professors once to see how they are doing, answer any of their questions, and receive feedback from them. This lesson reaches visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learners. This way each professor has an equal chance and opportunity to learn the material and create an online learning module. The module the professors are creating is for a lesson they use in the future. On the SAMR model, this lesson would fall under “modification” since professors are using D2L to enhance a lesson they already have. On Bloom’s Taxonomy this lesson would fall under “creating” since professors are using what they are learning to create an online learning module on D2L. I think when learners apply what they are learning in a meaningful way and it applies to them they will remember the material better, which is what this lesson is all about.

This project also includes my ideal learning environment floor plan and budget. My ideal learning environment is where I would be meeting the professors each week for my real world lesson. My ideal learning environment budget is for if I were an Instructional Designer or Instructional Technologist at a college or university.

Demonstrates Mastery

The real world lesson and ideal learning environment project demonstrates mastery of outcome five since I was able to research and come up with a floor plan and budget for my ideal learning environment. I have taken what I have learned and used it to develop a positive instructional technology learning environment. This project also shows mastery of outcome five since I was able to effectively communicate my ideal learning environment and budget through the use of a table, graphs, and floor plan.

Benefits

The real world lesson is beneficial for professors who are interested in learning about Desire2Learn and how to create learning modules in it. It is also good for professors who are looking to participate in professional development activities. My ideal learning environment and budget is beneficial for me because it helps me understand, as a possible future Instructional Designer or Instructional Technologist at a college or university, what I would ideally want in order to communicate with the professors and help them integrate technology into their classes.

Floor Plan for My Ideal Learning Environment

My ideal learning environment is a blended learning environment. Professors can come to the weekly meetings in person or meet online. The professors who meet face-to-face will bring their laptops to the meetings. The professors who meet online will meet in an online classroom, like Blackboard Collaboration. There is equipment in this room that will project the online classroom so everyone who meets face-to-face can see the professors in the online classroom.
